Volunteers

You can support the SHF by joining our group of volunteers and assisting us in our activities. Every and any contribution counts! Whichever way you may choose to help, we extend our very grateful thanks. Without your commitment, enthusiasm and initiative, the SHF cannot achieve nearly as much as we want to. If you can spare some time and energy to help us in the following event(s), we would love to hear from you.

Volunteer Positions

Event Volunteer Man SHF booths – merchandising, fundraising, recruitment of FOH members, information counter Crowd control Pack and distribute goodie bags Escort Other duties based on event type Time commitment: As required, depending on availability. Usually 3 – 5 hours per shift.

Office Support Volunteer Sort donations Mass mail – folding letters, pasting stamps Pack goodie bags Escort Other ad-hoc duties around the office when requested Time commitment: As required, depending on availability. Usually 3 – 5 hours per shift.

Administrative Support Volunteer Data entry Make telephone calls Other ad-hoc duties around the office when requested Volunteers should have basic computer skills. Time commitment: As required, depending on availability. Usually 3 – 5 hours per shift.

Volunteer Translator Translate materials (articles, advertisements, educational materials) from English to Chinese, Malay or Tamil, and vice versa Proof read translated materials Volunteers should be effectively bilingual. Time commitment: As required, depending on availability.

Media Volunteer

Media Story Volunteer Share personal experience with heart disease (as a patient, family member or close friend) through interviews for newspaper, magazines, radio, television and other types of media Be photographed or filmed to add human touch to story if required, but up to volunteer’s discretion. Time commitment: As required, depending on availability.

Volunteer Photographer Take photographs at our events for archive purpose Volunteers should be competent, preferably professional in this area. Time commitment: As required, depending on availability. SHF will pay for film, photo developing and other materials if required.

Volunteer Video-taker Film our events for archive purpose Volunteers should be competent, preferably professional in this area. Time commitment: As required, depending on availability. SHF will pay for materials if required.

Heart Wellness Counsellor

Smoking Cessation Handle clients on a one-to-one basis Provide high quality smoking cessation services Achieve good rapport and trust with the client, with respect to the service provided Provide a personal approach tailored to the stage of behaviour change of the client. Some objectives include: (a) working through the pros and cons of smoking with the client (b) equipping the client with useful life skills to aid smoking cessation (c) moving the client from his/her current stage of behaviour to the next Hospital Visit Visit hospitalised heart patients Provide them with emotional support and information on heart care and cardiac rehabilitation Visits to patients’ homes may be required Provide on-going support to patients through phone calls and visits if requested/required Training will be provided. Volunteers should love meeting people, have patience in handling them and have the heart to commit. Time commitment: At least one year, in view of the investment in training volunteers. Volunteers are to conduct regular sessions / visits, regularity to be advised (at least once a month).

Marketing Support Volunteer Travel to various organisations such as schools and corporations for meetings to market and promote SHF programmes and services Encourage organisations to support SHF programmes through participation or sponsorship, e.g. schools to take part in school programmes like Jump Rope for Heart, School Obesity Management Centre, and corporations to take up flights in Heart Charity Golf. Follow-up with phone calls and paperwork if required. Training will be provided. Volunteers should have experience in sales and marketing and be able to present themselves and SHF professionally. Time commitment: At least a year, as required. Each meeting should take only 1-2 hours.
