Role
Of Family Members
Throughout the various stages of cardiac rehabilitation,
the patient’s family members have an important role
to play. Strong family support helps to boost the patient’s
psychological well-being. Furthermore, knowledge on the
family members’ part of the patient’s heart
condition, his course of treatment, and his rehabilitation
programme makes it more likely that the patient will remain
committed to leading a healthier lifestyle. Family members
of patients who have recently had a heart attack should
also actively enrol for HeartSaver courses. These courses
will equip them with invaluable knowledge about the signs
and symptoms of a heart attack, how to react if the patient
suffers another heart attack, as well as how to resuscitate
the patient via cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR). By taking such pro-active measures
to support the patient and learn more about his condition,
family members can go a long way in furthering his recovery.
