What are the responsibilities of dog owners?

Dog owners are required by law to leash your dogs in public places. Leashing prevents dogs from getting lost or disturbing/hurting others. For the safety of all participants, owners must:

  • Keep your dog under proper control to ensure that he/she does not cause a nuisance to any person or dog.
  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure that their dog does not injure, endanger, intimidate or otherwise cause distress to any person or dog.
  • Ensure that your dog does not damage or endanger any property.

In compliance with the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) under National Parks Board (NParks), the following scheduled dogs must be leashed and securely muzzled, when in public places.

Be a responsible pet owner!

Please keep the venue clean. Clean up your dog’s poop with a plastic bag and dispose it in the nearest trash bin.

Dog training tips
  • Remember to practice over a two-week period leading up to the walk, so that you and your dog are properly trained and ready for the event.
  • Practice walking on trails and in other locations where people walk with their dogs, to acclimatise your dog to other dogs in a pack with distractions.
Safety tips
  • Stay hydrated throughout the Buddy Walk.
  • Make sure to stop if your dog is lagging behind. Pay close attention to the energy and stress levels of your dog. Do not pull or drag your dog.
  • Dogs must be on leashes at all times. The use of retractable leashes is highly discouraged and can be hazardous in a crowd.
  • Inspect your dog’s pads for any sign of cuts and wear.
  • Most importantly, relax and enjoy a healthy evening out with your furry friend(s)!
What can I look forward to at the end of the Buddy Walk?

All pre-registered dogs will receive a goodie bag + a Certificate of Pawticipation + a medal, once the walk is over!
