Are You Stressing Your Heart?

Stressed woman at work

Stress can be positive and motivate women to achieve notable goals, but it can also be destructive as it takes a toll on their lives. From helping kids with homework, cleaning up the house to climbing the corporate ladder, all this stress can put women at higher risk than men for having a stroke or developing diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions, according to a growing number of studies.

Psychosocial stressors, such as the relationship with spouse, family or coworkers, loss of loved ones, financial difficulties or isolation, can also trigger a hormonal reaction in the body that is linked to weight gain and increased risk for heart disease.

But women are often so busy; they do not realise the impact that stress has on them until the disease strikes.

Let’s encourage ladies around us to start taking care of their hearts by sticking to a heart-healthy routine, which includes regular exercise and a healthy diet.
