FAQ

The Standard First Aid + AED Certification Course aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills for Standard First Aid and use of the AED, according to guidelines by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council and recognised by the National Registry of Coaches and SportSG.

The Standard First Aid + AED Certification Course aims to equip you with essential knowledge and skills such as bandaging, immobilisation techniques for fracture, effective CPR, and using an AED. You will also learn to identify and manage an emergency as a first aider.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a valid First Aid certification in Standard First Aid with AED, accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council, aligned with established resuscitation and first aid standards in Singapore.

The certification is jointly accredited by the following organisation:

Accrediting Body Role in Certification
Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) Sets national standards for first aid, CPR, and AED training, and helps ensure course quality

This accreditation reflects that the training follows structured and current emergency response guidelines, giving participants practical skills that are recognised for both community and workplace settings.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to respond to common emergency situations with greater awareness and practical confidence, supported by nationally aligned first aid and resuscitation guidelines.

Participants will learn how to provide immediate care before professional medical help arrives, including assessing a victim’s condition and prioritising appropriate actions in time-sensitive situations. This includes recognising signs of distress and responding calmly in environments such as homes, workplaces and public spaces.

The course also equips participants to perform CPR effectively and manage emergencies such as choking, bleeding, burns and fractures. Through guided practice, they will develop the ability to apply first aid techniques safely while minimising further risk to the victim.

In addition, participants will gain hands-on experience performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED), learning how to respond swiftly during cardiac emergencies. These skills support the requirements of a recognised First Aid certification, reinforcing readiness in both community and workplace settings.

What is First Aid certification and what does it cover?

First Aid certification confirms that an individual has been trained to provide immediate care during emergencies before professional medical help arrives. It typically covers essential skills such as CPR, AED use, wound care and managing common injuries like burns, fractures and choking.

Who should attend a standard first aid course?

A standard first aid course is suitable for members of the public, caregivers, teachers and workplace safety personnel. It is especially useful for individuals who want to be prepared to respond to everyday emergencies at home, in the community or at work.

How long does it take to complete First Aid certification?

The duration of our standard First Aid + AED certification course usually ranges from one to two days.

What skills will I learn in a first aid course?

A first aid course teaches participants how to assess emergency situations and provide appropriate care. This includes CPR, AED usage, bleeding control, injury management and responding to medical conditions such as seizures or unconsciousness.

How long is a First Aid certification valid?

Standard First Aid + AED certification is typically valid for two years, after which renewal is required to maintain competency. Refresher training helps ensure that participants stay updated with current first aid and resuscitation guidelines.

What is the difference between First Aid certification and CPR+AED certification?

First Aid certification covers a broader range of emergency care, including injuries and medical conditions beyond cardiac arrest. CPR+AED certification focuses specifically on resuscitation techniques and the use of an automated external defibrillator during cardiac emergencies.

Is prior experience required to attend a first aid course?

No prior experience is needed to attend a first aid course, as it is designed for beginners. Participants are guided through each skill step by step, with practical sessions to build confidence in applying what they have learnt.

Can First Aid certification be useful in the workplace?

Yes, First Aid certification supports workplace safety by equipping employees to respond quickly during emergencies. It is often part of safety requirements in certain industries and helps organisations prepare for incidents that may occur on-site.

Is there a dress code?

Participants are requested to be suitably and comfortably dressed: T-shirt and pants/slacks with comfortable shoes. Avoid wearing dress, skirts and low-cut tops as the course requires (slight) physical activity.

Can I participate if I am pregnant?

We do not recommend pregnant women to participate in the training. However, if you are keen to learn more about CPR+AED, you can find out more in the following links or sign up for the Restart A Heart Programme.
