Set Sail for Women 2024

by JERMAINE KHOO

The Set Sail for Women 2024 was successfully held on board the Royal Albatross on Wednesday, 6 Mar 2024. The event was held to mark International Women’s Day and aimed to raise awareness of the impact of mental health on women’s heart health. It was intended to empower them to take better care of their mental well-being, as well as their heart.

Co-organised by the Fundraising and Community Education teams, the inaugural dinner cruise saw close to 80 guests decked in their best Tropicana / Hawaiian outfits. The event raised an estimated $295,000, with the Tote Board matching dollar for dollar under the Enhanced Fundraising Programme.

Despite the initial heavy downpour, the enthusiasm and spirit of everyone on board remained undaunted. The guests were treated to a 4-course dinner and had the opportunity to learn from Dr Chan Wan Xian, Chairperson for the Go Red for Women Committee, about the importance of motivating and empowering women to prioritise self-care. They were advised to go for regular health screening for the early detection of heart disease and associated risk factors.

The programme featured a heartwarming sharing by our Heart Wellness Centre client, Mdm Angie Ng. She recounted her journey of recovery since her first heart attack diagnosis, highlighting the positive impact of the SHF’s cardiac rehabilitation programme on her overall recovery.
