Life After A Heart Attack

What is cardiac rehabilitation?

Cardiac rehabilitation is a programme designed to improve your cardiovascular health and reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease after a heart attack, heart failure; or after undergoing angioplasty or heart surgery. In recent years, cardiac rehab has also been extended to those with increased risk factors like hypertension, hyperlipidaemia or diabetes.

Cardiac rehabilitation includes three components:

  • Exercise advise and training
  • Heart-health education including advice about risk factors like smoking and diet
  • Stress counselling on reducing stress, which may hurt your heart

Find out Singapore’s experience in cardiac rehabilitation in these slides by SHF Emeritus Chairman Dr Low Lip Ping, originally prepared for a presentation at the Asia Pacific Heart Network Conference in June 2020. The conference was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
