Heartbeat Check-In: What's a Heart-Healthy Habit For You?

by Nur Nadia Binte Ali

Taking care of your heart is all about the small, consistent steps you take daily. Whether it’s nourishing your body with healthy foods, staying active, or simply checking in with your emotions, every habit counts. Let’s hear from our SHF team members across different departments about how they manage their heart-healthy habits!

Ms Natalie Yeo
Senior Dietitian, Heart Wellness Centres

Natalie plays a key role in our multidisciplinary Heart Wellness Centres. She delivers quality nutrition care to heart patients, at-risk individuals and the broader community through education talks, workshops and lifestyle-focused programmes.

  • Limit my sodium intake
Instead of reaching for salt-shakers, I enjoy using aromatics and herbs to enhance the natural flavours of my meals.
  • Live with Gratitude
“Walking outdoors, sharing a kind word or lending a hand feeds my heart.”

It’s a privilege to walk alongside our clients. Offering care and compassion reminds me that connection and support is vital to well-being.

Mr Jeffrey Koo
Senior Executive, Heart Safe

Jeffrey leads lifesaving training for both professionals and the public. Through CPR+AED and First Aid education, he empowers people to act confidently in emergencies, supporting the national mission to build a prepared, responsive nation of lifesavers.

  • Maintain a heart-friendly diet
“I prioritise a higher protein intake to help counteract sarcopenia, the natural muscle loss that comes with ageing.”
  • Stay active
“Besides regular gym sessions, I also engage in sports.”
  • Keep well-hydrated

I believe in a holistic approach, focusing on a single and consistent set of habits.

Ms Niki Ng
Executive, Strategic Partnerships & Engagement (Schools)

Niki leads heart health education efforts in schools and inspires students to make informed lifestyle choices at a young age.

  • Powerlifting
“Powerlifting is my reset button after a long day to stay sharp and strong.”
  • Measure my blood pressure
“I never skip my weekly blood pressure checks. Knowing your numbers is power!”

My job is about advocating heart health to the young, and I walk the talk!

Mr Jabez Lim
Supervisor, Strategic Partnerships & Engagement (Community)

Jabez plays a vital role in driving heart health awareness through meaningful outreach. He supports the planning and execution of community programmes, leading to public engagement initiatives and supporting his team in delivering impactful campaigns that contribute to the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

  • Stay active
“Staying active, through gym sessions or playtime with my son, keeps me feeling energised and strong. “
  • Have a healthy diet
“I go for more vegetables, ask for less oil and no extra salt when I order takeaway.”

Heart health isn’t just a goal – it’s a part of how I live, laugh and love every moment with my family.
