Singapore, 4 September 2026 – The Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) has launched today an artistic showcase at Bayfront MRT Station featuring heart-health-inspired art creations by young artists, shortlisted from its Art for the Heart 2026 art competition themed “Strong Hearts, Bright Future”.
Officiating at the launch of the showcase was Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore, and Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC.
Part of SHF’s community heart-health project known as “Next Stop: Your Healthier Heart” presented at the Circle Line MRT station, which also showcases heart surgery medical devices and technology, the launch event was held in collaboration with SMRT Trains and Terumo Asia Holdings, and supported by DKSH, in conjunction with the National Heart Week/World Heart Day.
The initiative also marks the third collaboration between SHF, SMRT Trains and Terumo Asia Holdings, with shared aspirations of raising public awareness of cardiovascular disease among Singaporeans.
In its third year running, the Art for the Heart art competition encourages young artists aged seven to 17 to creatively express heart-health messages through their artistic creations, to inspire more people in our community to take charge of their heart health and keep cardiovascular disease at bay.
Beyond recognising artistic talent, Art for the Heart 2026 seeks to encourage young Singaporeans to become our nation’s next generation of heart-health advocates and influence others with their artistic expressions. To create their heart-health-inspired art pieces, participants will first need to have a general understanding of cardiovascular disease and the heart-healthy lifestyle habits to prevent them, following which they will need to express their heart-health messages creatively through their designs.
The competition also serves to spark meaningful heart-health conversations between the participants, as well as their friends and family members, so that more people will be inspired to take charge of their heart health.
“I feel very proud to be able to put what I have learnt about heart health into my painting, and now my art piece can be seen by so many people. I hope that people who see my painting will be able to change to a healthier lifestyle, so that they can have a healthier heart,” said Sun Yexiu Immanuel, 13, a Secondary One student at Raffles Institution (Secondary).
This year’s competition has met with an overwhelming response, with more than 2,000 submissions coming from primary schools, secondary schools and tertiary institutions nationwide. Thirty of the best art creations were shortlisted and showcased at Bayfront MRT Station from 4 September 2026 through 30 November 2026, and members of the public are welcome to vote for their favourite art piece by scanning a QR code printed on the showcase by 31 October 2026.
The top three art creations that secure the largest number of public votes will be the winners in the People’s Choice category. Separately, the shortlisted participants will also qualify for the Primary and Secondary/Tertiary winning categories. All winners will be announced on SHF’s website and social media platforms on 6 November 2026.
“This year’s Art for the Heart competition has been a ‘bumper year’ for us, with a record number of submissions. This shows that more young Singaporeans are now more conscious of the threat of cardiovascular disease and the importance of raising public awareness of that. We hope that the artistic expressions of these young artists will be the starting point of how they will influence those around them to take charge of their heart health and that they will one day become our heart-health advocate to shape the future of our nation’s heart health with us!” said Mr Geoffrey Ong, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Heart Foundation.
Another feature of the “Next Stop: Your Healthier Heart” showcase at Bayfront MRT Station was a series of medical devices and technology presented by Terumo Asia Holdings, aimed at raising public awareness and understanding of the procedures and technologies involved in cardiovascular treatment and surgery.
The showcase includes a heart vessel model demonstrating the stenting process, as well as an endoscopic vein harvesting display illustrating how a vein may be obtained for use in coronary artery bypass surgery, alongside other technologies used in cardiovascular procedures. Selected displays will be showcased until 30 November 2026.
“We are proud to partner with the Singapore Heart Foundation and SMRT Trains on this meaningful initiative. By bringing some of the medical technologies used in cardiovascular procedures closer to the public, we hope to provide greater insight into heart health and the role these technologies play in supporting patient care. More importantly, we hope the showcase will generate greater awareness of cardiovascular health and highlight the importance of prevention and early intervention,” said Toshiyuki Akaike, Chairman & Managing Director, Terumo Asia Pacific.
The “Next Stop: Your Healthier Heart” showcase at Bayfront MRT Station is an extension of the longstanding collaboration between SHF, SMRT Trains and Terumo Asia Holdings to encourage Singaporeans to take charge of their heart health.
In 2024, all three organisations jointly launched the first two Health@Station Kiosks located in the Tanjong Pagar and Promenade MRT stations; this was further expanded in October 2025 to include four additional kiosks located in the one-north, Kent Ridge, Labrador Park and Tai Seng MRT stations. The kiosks are meant to encourage commuters to take a pause and conduct a quick check of their blood pressure and Body Mass Index on their journeys regularly, so that they will be able to detect cardiovascular risk early.
“When we launched our first Health@Station kiosks at Tanjong Pagar and Promenade MRT stations, we were unsure how commuters would respond. As it turns out, the kiosks were well-received from the start. We now have six kiosks, and commuters continue to use them actively. This shows that they value easy access to health resources. We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with the Singapore Heart Foundation and Terumo Asia Holdings through this community heart-health showcase at Bayfront MRT station to encourage commuters to take charge of their heart health. This supports our aim to make MRT stations an important part of community life,” said Mr Lam Sheau Kai, President of SMRT Trains.
