A Small Token, A Big Difference

Mr Ramalingam is no stranger to the afflictions caused by cardiovascular disease. He was first introduced to the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) in 2007 and currently visits a polyclinic for follow-up sessions on his multiple health issues, including heart disease and hypertension. During the last quarter of 2020, Mr Ramalingam was admitted to the hospital for a case of fluid overload secondary to coronary artery disease.

Due to old age and a prior knee replacement procedure in 2019, 74-year-old Mr Ramalingam is mostly homebound and can only travel around his neighbourhood on a wheelchair, making his frequent visits to the polyclinic challenging. Widowed with no children, he resides with a friend, Mdm Karpayee, in a 1-room HDB rental flat. Being unemployed means that Mr Ramalingam is reliant on the goodwill of Mdm Karpayee and other friends to cover his daily expenses.

With your support, cardiac patients like Mr Ramalingam can now take charge of their heart health.

As a beneficiary of the Singapore Heart Foundation’s (SHF) Heart Support Fund, Mr Ramalingam is grateful to receive a blood pressure monitor to help him and the community nurses better monitor his conditions. The Fund has helped many beneficiaries like Mr Ramalingam, enabling their day-to-day activities through sponsorship of blood pressure monitors, wheelchair repair costs and transport fees, and defrayment of medical treatment fees. This will go a long way in empowering the beneficiaries to cope and even thrive with their ongoing health issues.
