Common Heart Attack Symptoms

 

Chest pain

Heaviness, fullness, pressure, squeezing, tightness on the centre of the chest, lasting longer than a few minutes, or comes and goes.

 

Shortness of breath

With or without pain

 

Pain in the arms, left shoulder, neck, jaw or back

 

Cold sweat, nausea

Common Heart Attack Symptoms in Women

Unusual pain in arms, back, shoulder, neck, jaw

Chest pain

Shortness of breath

Nausea

Light-headedness or sudden dizziness

Breaking out in cold sweat

Unusual fatigue

Women may sometimes discount these clues as they don’t “feel” like a heart attack. It is important that these warning signs are not ignored and that a doctor be consulted immediately.

 

What to do?

  • Call 995 for ambulance immediately
  • Do not self-drive to the hospital
You will need specialised treatment as soon as possible to save your heart muscle. The ambulance has the necessary medical equipment and medication to manage your condition.

Stroke Symptoms

Face drooping

Is the person’s smile uneven?

Arm weakness

Can the person raise both arms and keep them up?

Speech difficulty

Does the person’s speech sound slurred or unclear?

Time to call 995

If the person shows any of these signs, they need to be rushed to the hospital immediately.


You may also encounter some of these symptoms:

  • Fainting or unconsciousness
  • Severe headache with no known cause
  • Difficulty walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
  • Blur vision

What to do?

  • Call 995 for ambulance immediately

Signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Gasping

No normal breathing and loss of consciousness

What to do?

  • Call 995 for ambulance
  • Start CPR immediately
  • Use an AED if it is available
