Salt is rich in sodium, consequently sauces and processed food are also high in sodium. A high intake of sodium is associated with hypertension and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Go for fresh ingredients and season food with herbs and spices to lower your sodium intake.

Our body requires sodium to function effectively. However, a high intake of sodium can lead to high blood pressure, increasing the risk for heart diseases and stroke.

Recommended Daily Intake
It is recommended to keep sodium intake to less than 2000mg per day, which is equivalent to about less than 1 teaspoon of salt per day. Sodium is naturally present in all types of food, hence your daily recommended sodium intake can be easily met, without having to consume additional salt.
