Art for the Heart 2024 winners

In honour of World Heart Day 2024, we welcomed creative minds to enter our Art for the Heart 2024 competition, titled “Feed Your Heart, Nourish Your Art.” This campaign sought to emphasise the critical link between heart-healthy eating habits and artistic expression. Participants were asked to create artwork that demonstrated how healthful eating choices contribute to a healthier heart. After assessing multiple amazing entries, the Singapore Heart Foundation team is thrilled to announce the winners, whose designs perfectly capture the essence of this topic and emphasise the significance of healthy eating! Here are the winning entries:

First Place “Fulfilling Heart” by Wu Jia En from Greenridge Secondary School.

My artwork illustrates the powerful connection between heart health and overall well-being. Each fruit featured in my artwork was thoughtfully selected for its heart-healthy properties, symbolising the vital role that nutrition plays in sustaining both physical and emotional health. By nourishing the heart through mindful eating, we cultivate strength, energy, and balance. This artwork is a gentle reminder that the foods we choose not only fuel our bodies but also uplift our spirits, ultimately contributing to a more vibrant, joyful, and fulfilling life.

Second Place “Healthy Heart, Happy Heart” by Khor Kai Shan from Pei Tong Primary School

My artwork, “Healthy Heart, Happy Heart,” depicts hands holding a heart made of puzzle pieces, with each piece featuring a fruit or vegetable. This symbolises how healthy eating – especially fruits and vegetables – keeps our hearts strong and happy. Just like a puzzle needs all its pieces to be whole, our hearts need nourishing food to stay healthy. I hope my artwork reminds everyone to make heart-healthy food choices every day.

Novelty Art Piece: “The Road to A Healthier Heart” by Zhang Yishu from Raffles Girls Primary School

My drawing illustrates how people can lead a healthy life and make their heart healthier. The girl in my drawing is thinking about various ways she can stay healthy. Heart-healthy eating habits are represented through balanced meals that include fresh meat, vegetables, whole-grains, and fruit, providing essential nutrients like protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins.

Exercise is another key element for a healthy heart. The heart in the middle is surrounded by people engaging in various exercises, symbolizing how physical activity helps build a healthy heart. The inspiration for my artwork comes from my passion for playing tennis and eating a variety of healthy foods to keep myself healthy.

Hence, I created this piece to show how simple, everyday choices – like balanced nutrition and regular exercise – can lead to a healthier lifestyle. My hope is that this artwork inspires others to embrace these habits as well.

Novelty Art Piece: “Feed Your Heart, Nourish your Art” by Alison Jenisha Jeisilan from CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel

My artwork contrasts healthy and unhealthy hearts through their food choices. Set in a food court, the healthy hearts have chosen nutritious options like sushi and salads. They appear vibrant and bright red, energised and happy due to the vitamins from their healthy meals.

In contrast, the unhealthy hearts are eating unhealthy food such as cupcakes and pizza. They have a bluish hue, reflecting the buildup of cholesterol plaques are stuck to them, and show signs of damage, such as scratch marks.

These hearts are either overweight or malnourished, feeling irritable, grumpy, and sad because of their poor diet. The unfit heart at the bottom is struggling and out of breath.

The artwork also highlights how parents influence their children’s eating habits. It is important for parents to provide healthy food, ensuring their children feel their best. The heart on the right has not made her food choice yet. I hope she chooses well!

Novelty Art Piece: Eat Healthy Food! Lead Healthy Life! by Hu Zhiqi from Raffles Girls Primary School

I drew three hearts competing to see which one is the healthiest. The first heart, Reddish, is smiling and full of energy, showing no signs of fatigue. Pinkish and Purplish, however, are struggling – They are frowning, sweating and clearly exhausted. Reddish is the healthiest heart because she always eats healthy food, while Pinkish and Purplish are less healthy due to poor eating habits.

Cheering from the sidelines are various vegetables, fruits, and wholemeal bread. An apple, kiwi, pear, broccoli, and carrot are all standing behind the finish line, which has the words “The Most Healthy Heart.” written on it.

An avocado shouts, “Eat healthy food! Lead a healthy life!”, while wholemeal bread encourages, “Take care of your heart!”

Novelty Art Piece: “Heartbeat of Health: What’s on Your Plate? by Isabelle Eve Zhang from Raffles Girls Primary School

My artwork features several small trays filled with food, arranged in the shape of a heart, symbolising the importance of dietary choices on heart health. On one side, I’ve arranged vibrant, red plates with heart-healthy foods such as dark-chocolate, yogurt, cherries, almonds, olives and salmon. These foods represent nourishment and well-being.

On the other side, I’ve placed a black plate holding unhealthy items like pizza, sugary cereals, M&M’s and melted cheese. The black plate is being removed from the heart-shaped trays, signifying the need to eliminate these foods from our diet to protect our hearts. Two post-it notes are included as reminders to prioritize a healthy diet and exercise for both our heart health and overall well-being.

I found out about this competition through my school, When I saw it, I was inspired to look into how I could help my grandfather. He was recently diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat and may need a pacemaker. I hope my grandfather learns to make better food choices after seeing my artwork.
