A new study has revealed that adults who score well on the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Life Simple 7 checklist – a calculator designed to educate the public on positive lifestyle habits to reduce heart attack and stroke, may be at a reduced risk of heart failure.
The 12-year study assessed 3,201 adults of an average age of 59 years old, during which 188 of them developed heart failure.
The checklist focuses on the 7 cardiovascular health factors – managing blood pressure & cholesterol, reducing blood sugar, physical activity, eating healthily, losing weight and not smoking.
It was found that for every one-point increase in cardiovascular health score on the calculator, the participant’s risk for heart failure reduced by 23%.
