Singapore, 27 September 2025 – Cardiovascular disease remains Singapore’s leading public health threat, underscoring the importance of prevention, rehabilitation and resuscitation. To raise awareness and empower the public to take charge of their heart health, the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) organised its annual National Heart Week/World Heart Day 2025 at Junction 8 today. Themed “Resilient Hearts, United Future: Building Our Heart-Healthier Singapore Together”, the event brought the community together to learn practical steps for heart-healthy living, while reflecting on Singapore’s resilience at SG60 and commemorating SHF’s 55th year of building a heart-healthier nation.

The event was graced by Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs and highlighted the importance of collective action in protecting and improving heart health. More than a community gathering, the event showcased how individuals, families, schools, healthcare partners and corporates each play an integral role in shaping a heart-healthier nation. Aligned with the SG60 message of “Connect, Contribute and Care”, SHF connects people and communities with heart health knowledge, contributes to national efforts through programmes and partnerships, and cares for individuals by equipping them with resources to take ownership of their heart health journey and save lives through resuscitation.

“As we commemorate our 55th year, it has never been clearer that promoting better heart health in Singapore must be a shared responsibility,” said Mr Geoffrey Ong, CEO of Singapore Heart Foundation. “Our annual National Heart Week/World Heart Day highlights the powerful impact of cross-sector collaborations, grassroots initiatives and community-wide engagement in empowering individuals—young and old—to make heart-healthy choices, learn life-saving skills, and support one another in building a resilient future together.”

Powered by Collaboration

Recognising that heart health requires multipartite collaborations, SHF spotlighted key partnerships across industry, education, and community sectors. These include:

  • SHF x Guardian Health & Beauty Singapore x Terumo Asia Holdings: Joint efforts to advance heart disease prevention, cardiac rehabilitation support and improve resuscitation efforts
Thirty high-traffic Guardian stores will progressively be installed with free self-help blood pressure Kiosks (BP Kiosks), equipped with Terumo blood pressure monitors to empower early detection of cardiovascular risk and encourage individuals to take charge of their own health and well-being. Drawing on over a century of experience, Terumo brings medical technology as a trusted partner and clinical expertise to this initiative, reinforcing public confidence in community-based health screening.
Guardian’s pharmacists will advise at-risk individuals to seek timely medical care and raise awareness of SHF’s Heart Wellness Programme. Beyond the BP Kiosks, SHF will work with Guardian’s pharmacists to deliver community heart health talks focused on blood pressure management and preventive care. Selected Guardian’s team members will also undergo CPR and AED training conducted by SHF to strengthen the team’s readiness to respond effectively during a cardiac emergency. This collaboration integrates cardiovascular disease prevention into everyday retail spaces, combining SHF’s expertise in heart health advocacy, Guardian’s community reach as a trusted health partner, as well as Terumo’s legacy of healthcare innovation. Together, these efforts demonstrate a shared commitment of SHF, Guardian and Terumo to promote better heart health in Singapore.
  • SHF x Tong Seng Produce (Brand Owners of SongHe Rice and RiceField Oil): Heart-Healthier Food Choices
A collaboration to promote healthier alternatives that help Singaporeans make everyday meals more heart-friendly without compromising the taste.
  • SHF x ITE College West: Promote Healthier Living Through Food and Fitness
SHF and ITE College West students are championing heart health through practical food and fitness initiatives. Together, SHF’s dietitians and ITE students have curated a series of heart-healthy recipes, combing professional nutritional guidance from SHF’s dietitians with the students’ culinary expertise gained from Higher Nitec courses in Culinary Arts, Pastry & Baking, and Hospitality Operations. These creations will be showcased in two interactive food tasting sessions, called the Heart Smart Kitchen, during the event, demonstrating that healthier choices can both be delicious and accessible.
On the fitness front, students from ITE’s Higher Nitec in Sport Management and Technical Diploma in Health & Exercise Coaching courses have also partnered with SHF to co-develop exercise programmes. These initiatives encourage healthier living among their peers and the community, with opportunities for graduates to return as instructors, extending the programme to the heartlands while fostering youth leadership.
  • SHF x Eunoia Junior College Students: Project Avocardio
A youth-driven initiative that combines heart health advocacy with fundraising, empowering students to champion awareness of heart health issues while supporting SHF’s programmes.
  • Go Red for World Heart Day
24 iconic landmarks across Singapore will light up in red, uniting the nation in a powerful visual display of solidarity in the fight against cardiovascular disease.

Together, these partnerships reaffirm SHF’s commitment to making heart health knowledge and resources accessible and practical for all Singaporeans.

Thoughtfully Curated Activities Designed to Inspire Heart-Healthy Living

True to its commitment to inclusivity, SHF brought together participants of all ages to experience activities that made heart health both practical and engaging. From resistance band workouts to low-impact cardio exercises, these sessions not only encouraged physical activity but also highlighted how simple movements can strengthen fitness, improve mobility and build stamina safely.
The event also featured lively stage games and quizzes that engaged participants while equipping them with the essential heart heath knowledge. Participants further gained vital life-saving skills through live CPR+AED demonstrations, as well as a hands-on CPR+AED certification course led by SHF instructors. These sessions provided practical knowledge and instilled confidence in the participants to empower them to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies, reinforcing the importance of early intervention within the community.

Complementing the physical and emergency response activities, visitors explored nutrition and lifestyle choices through food tastings at the Heart Smart Kitchen, where families discovered healthier food options together. Children enjoyed a snack-crafting session that blended creativity with lessons on nutrition, while other participants attended the Heart Wellness Talks that debunked common myths, offered practical takeaways for cardiovascular disease prevention and introduced SHF’s Heart Wellness Programme.

The day’s activities brought to life SHF’s mission to empower every Singaporean with the knowledge, skills and motivation to take charge of their heart health and embrace healthier living for the years to come.

Fundraising with Heart: Hearty Friends in a Box

In the spirit of community and care, SHF unveiled a special edition Hearty Friends in a Box – a set of limited-edition collectible blind boxes available until 31 October 2025. Each box features an adorable Hearty Friend stress ball and a collectible character card packed with fun heart health factoids to educate and inspire.
