The 2nd Community First Responder (CFR) Sharing Session was organised by the Heart Safe team at our Bishan premises on 17 Aug, Sat. The participants included the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF)’s Community Lifesaver Award Recipients, People Association’s C2E Grassroots Leaders, Singapore Heart Foundation’s instructors and other community first responders.
The session kickstarted with interviews of CFRs Larry and Wayne, garnered from the 1st sharing session organised last year. This is to encourage more responders to share their personal experiences, which would in turn lead to increasing initiative and also response to Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest emergencies.
Our first speaker for the day was Dr Sharon Sung, Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Supervising Clinical Psychologist at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Institute of Mental Health. She shared on looking out for signs of depression and PTSD, and on how to seek help for those affected.

The second speaker was Mr Edmund Cheong, Staff Officer from SCDF’s Volunteer and Community Partnership Department. He shared about the new myResponder app’s current and upcoming features, as well as statistics of cases and CFR responses over the years.

The audience participated enthusiastically and fielded many questions during the Q&A. This was followed by an AED demonstration by HTM Medico, whose HeartSine AEDs are used in schools and army camps. Participants learned about the unique features of their AEDs, and were able to try out the AED trainer set and Brayden manikin.
