Why learn CPR+AED

Every year, about 3,000 people suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Singapore, with 70%-80% of these cases occurring in the home or public places. In such cases, the person nearest to the victim is often a bystander with no medical expertise, such as a relative, an office colleague, or a passer-by. If those present at the scene can promptly provide CPR to the victim, the latter’s chances of survival will increase significantly.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a condition when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating, causing blood to stop flowing to the brain and other organs.

Once the heart stops beating and blood flow stops, a person will lose consciousness in 15 seconds. Within 30 to 60 seconds, breathing will stop, and irreversible damage to his brain cells will follow after several minutes of oxygen deprivation.

SCA can happen to anyone at any time, regardless of age or fitness level. It usually occurs without warning and is often fatal, even with fast ambulance services.

Time is the essence when treating a cardiac arrest victim.

Immediate application of CPR and AED can increase a victim’s survival rates by as high as 50%.
You do not need to be trained or certified to perform CPR or use an AED. But, taking a course will give you the confidence to spring into action immediately during an emergency.

You have the power to save a life!
