On 18 Jan 2025, the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) hosted the annual National Life Saving Day (NLSD) symposium at the Ng Teng Fong Centre for Healthcare Innovation. This year’s event highlighted the link between heat injuries and sudden cardiac arrest, as well as that between sports safety and emergency response. The Guest of Honour was Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
Bringing together 185 participants from 53 institutions—including first-time attendees from education, sports and healthcare sectors—the symposium underscored the growing urgency of safeguarding heart health while pursuing active lifestyles.
The symposium concluded on a powerful note with a live interview featuring cardiac arrest survivor Edward Poh and his rescuer, Dr Jason Chen. Their story underscored the real impact of swift life-saving actions, putting a human face to the day’s discussions. It served as a compelling reminder of why heart health safety in sports matters and the critical role of preparedness and bystander intervention in saving lives.
A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers and partners for making NLSD 2025 a success!
