National Life Saving Day 2026
The 4th edition of National Life Saving Day (NLSD) 2026, themed “Silver Meets Gold – Emergency Readiness in Senior Care,” was successfully held on 17 Jan. Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Ministry of National Development and Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC, graced the event as the Guest of Honour.
The event brought together 257 participants from the healthcare, community and training sectors. It reflected a strong, shared commitment to strengthening emergency preparedness and life-saving capabilities in senior care. With Singapore’s ageing population rising steadily, equipping caregivers, healthcare professionals and community members with life-saving knowledge has never been more crucial.
Expert Insights Across Clinical, Emergency and Legal Domains
The programme featured three distinguished speakers, who shared expert perspectives spanning clinical, emergency response and legal considerations:
- Recognising frailty in seniors and its implications for emergency response – Dr Christopher Lien, Geriatric Medicine Consultant at the Changi General Hospital
- Emergency preparedness for the elderly, including the medical aspects of Advance Care Planning (ACP) and Advance Medical Directives (AMD) – Dr Joanna Chan, Emergency Consultant at the Singapore General Hospital
- Insights on the legal and ethical considerations surrounding resuscitation decisions – Ms Felicia Chain, Associate Director at the Legal Clinic LLC
Through a series of thought-provoking talks and interactive discussions, the session fostered meaningful dialogue on emergency response and the challenges in providing senior care. It also highlighted the critical role of training and preparedness in improving outcomes. Participants gained valuable insights, reinforcing that knowledge, experience and cross-sector collaboration can translate into real-world impact when lives are at stake.
