Singapore Prevention & Cardiac Rehabilitation Symposium 2023: Pioneering a Revolutionary Era in Cardiovascular Health

Singapore, 28 October 2023 – The 5th Edition of the Singapore Prevention & Cardiac Rehabilitation Symposium (SPCRS) began today, bringing together over 300 regional cardiovascular health professionals, and fostering the exchange of knowledge and the pursuit of ongoing education on cardiovascular health. The theme of SPCRS 2023, “A New Era of Preventive Cardiology and Personalisation in Cardiac Rehabilitation”, inspired an extensive line-up of keynote addresses and workshops from leading regional and local cardiac health experts.

The symposium, organised by the Singapore Heart Foundation biennially, will take place over one and a half days from 28 – 29 October at the Orchard Hotel. Guest of Honour Prof Kenneth Mak, Director-General of Health from the Ministry of Health, graced the event.

Championing Modern Cardiac Health Solutions

For almost a decade, SPCRS 2023 has been a landmark event in preventive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation. This year, the one-and-a-half-day programme provided the latest breakthroughs and advances in the local and regional healthcare landscape.

Keynote presentations from renowned multidisciplinary experts showcased the latest evidence-based solutions and cutting-edge approaches in vital areas of cardiovascular health. These topics included cardiac rehabilitation methods that aim to improve patients’ functional capacities, personalised and sustainable dietary approaches for obesity treatment, as well as innovative interventions in secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

In addition to the presentations, attendees of SPCRS 2023 also gained expert insights through thought-provoking discussions, Q&A sessions, informative workshops, and debate on highly relevant topics related to cardiac rehabilitation. These various forms of engagement and conversation provided interactive and educational sessions that ensured attendees were left with a fulfilling and enriching experience.

Importantly, the symposium was a nexus of shared knowledge and collaboration between like-minded individuals with a strong passion for bringing preventive and rehabilitative cardiovascular care to an unparalleled level.

Paving the Path to A Heart Healthier World

While public health systems have significantly improved over the past decades, there is always a need to improve and enhance the cardiovascular health of the public.

The rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular disease commenced in 1980 when the late Dr Kwa Soon Bee appointed a committee headed by Dr Low Lip Ping, Chairman Emeritus of the Singapore Heart Foundation and Dr Oon Chong Hau, to help patients to return to normal physical activity and to work after a heart attack.

The Singapore Heart Foundation, since then, took on the challenge of expanding the programme to help more patients resume an active life after a heart attack as well as after a cardiac surgery.

“Following the success of the previous virtual edition, the Singapore Heart Foundation is proud to organise the Singapore Prevention & Cardiac Rehabilitation Symposium 2023 again in its physical form,” said Dr Low Lip Ping, Chairman Emeritus of the Singapore Heart Foundation. “We hope that this symposium will continue to serve as a source of inspiration and networking, encouraging cardiac professionals to champion their vital research in cardiovascular health.”

“SPCRS 2023 provides a crucial platform for regional healthcare professionals, researchers, and experts in the field to come together, exchange knowledge, and explore innovative approaches to cardiac care. This edition is significant in offering personalised cardiac care solutions and we hope the exchanges made at the event will transform the lives of communities across the world”, said Clin Asst Prof Huang Zijuan, Organising Chairperson of SPCRS.
