Held in commemoration of National Heart Week/World Heart Day (NHW/WHD), the annual event organised by the Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF) returns virtually this year!
This year, the event will shine a spotlight on the hidden sodium content in our everyday meals. Prolonged overconsumption of sodium can lead to hypertension, a major risk factor of CVD. In 2020, cardiovascular disease (including heart disease and stroke) accounted for 31.7% of deaths in Singapore. It is hence important to educate and motivate Singaporeans to take care of their hearts.
Over three weeks from 18 September to 3 October 2021, the virtual event will feature health talks where healthcare experts share topics such as hypertension and salt intake, gestational hypertension and other cardiovascular disease. From heart-pumping workouts by fitness instructors to delectable heart-healthy recipes demonstrated by Nutritionist Charlotte Mei, the virtual event will feature an exciting line-up of programmes for all participants to enjoy from home!
Other highlights include a hypertension workshop, Down with Hypertension Programme, which educates the public on blood pressure monitoring; and Hugopoly, an interactive online board game featuring SHF’s lovable mascot Hugo, where participants can stand to win attractive prizes!
